Material of Flexible Printed Circuit

1.Finishes

The most common insulating film materials are polyamide and polyester. Polyimide material is non-flammable, has stable geometric dimensions, nonflammabilityile strength, and can withstand welding temperatures. Polyester, also known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), has physical properties similar to polyimides, such as a low dielectric constant and little moisture absorption, but it does not withstand high temperatures. Polyester has a melting point of 250 degrees Celsius and a glass transition temperature (TG) of 80 degrees Celsius, limiting its use in applications that require extensive end welding. Polyimide insulating film is commonly combined with polyimide or acrylic adhesive, whereas polyester insulating material is commonly combined with polyester adhesive. When combined with materials that have similar properties can have dimensional stability after dry welding or after multiple lamination cycles. Other important properties of adhesives are low dielectric constant, high insulation resistance, high glass transition temperature, and low moisture absorption.

2.Conductor

Copper foil can be used in flexible circuits. It can be electrodeposited (ED) or plated. The surface of one side of the copper foil deposited by electrodeposition is shiny, while the surface processed on the other side is dull. It is a malleable material that can be formed into a variety of thicknesses and widths. After special treatment, the matt side of ED copper foil often improves its bonding ability. In addition to flexibility, forged copper foil has the properties of hardness and smoothness. It is appropriate for applications that require dynamic deflection.
